Orthotics

What are Orthotics?

Orthotics are inserts that are placed in shoes to help correct and support the feet. They are typically made of hard or semi-rigid materials, such as plastic or carbon fiber, and are used to treat a variety of foot problems. Orthotics can be custom-made to fit an individual's specific foot structure and needs, or they can be purchased over-the-counter in a more generic size and shape.

Orthotics are often prescribed by a doctor, podiatrist, or other healthcare provider to help treat foot problems such as flat feet, high arches, overpronation (when the feet roll inward too much when walking), and plantar fasciitis (heel pain). They can also be used to help alleviate other types of foot, ankle, and leg pain, as well as improve balance and stability.

Custom orthotics are made by taking a mold or impression of the feet and using this information to create a unique, tailored insert. The process usually involves a thorough evaluation of the feet, including a physical examination and possibly imaging tests, to determine the best course of treatment. Custom orthotics can be made from a variety of materials, including plastic, carbon fiber, and foam, and can be adjusted for different levels of support and cushioning.

Over-the-counter orthotics are more generic and are not tailored to an individual's specific foot structure or needs. They are generally less expensive than custom orthotics and can be purchased at many drugstores and sporting goods stores. However, they may not provide the same level of support and comfort as custom orthotics, and they may not be as effective in treating certain foot problems.

Custom Orthoses

When you experience foot or heal pain, Orthotics can help relieve the pain. An orthotic is a shoe insert that supports the movement of a foot. It can help support and protect bones, ligaments, nerves and tendons to keep them in a safe and healthy position. Orthotics can also be used to fix foot deformities and help people function better with less pain. Reuters creates custom inserts or insoles for your foot to assure you’re getting the correct orthotic.
